Technology to change the future of agriculture
Spring 2009 - For over 15 years, Agri ImaGIS Technologies, has been using technology to help farmers from all around the world manage their fields more effectively and has become a leader in remote-sensing for the agriculture industry. Agri ImaGIS uses satellite imagery to map vegetation density and create variable rate prescription maps to more accurately apply fertilizer and other inputs. With a multi-billion acre database of imagery, Agri ImaGIS has the largest image archive for agricultural, use, in the world.
In 1998, Agri ImaGIS was the first in its field to provide an online system for downloading images through Satshot.com. Today the company provides its services completely via the internet which enables them to support customers around the world. For one dollar per acre, customers can analyze imagery, create zone maps and create and export variable rate prescription maps for efficient management of crop inputs. Customers have the opportunity to get updated satellite imagery multiple times a year plus they receive access to our archive of over 10 years worth of imagery; all for the same cost.
President, Lanny Faleide, says, "Satellite imagery has been proven to be a viable data source for defining management zones in a variety of crops all around the world." Variable rate application of fertilizer, seed, chemical, and other products has been shown to increase yields and decrease input costs.
Faleide goes on by saying, "The system is designed to provide quick access while being easy to use. It is our goal to stay at the leading edge of precision agriculture and remote-sensed imagery to help manage crop production for a growing population."
The company has also developed a mapping system for use by the crop insurance industry. Satellite imagery provides a crop assessment to help verify crop insurance claims.
The next generation of technology at Agri ImaGIS is Satshot Mobile which is a cell phone application. "Right now we have developed an application that allows our customers to analyze satellite imagery of their fields on their cell phone" says Faleide. When not next to your computer, the cell phone application can be used for crop scouting and saving analysis back to the mapping system. Look for Satshot Mobile to be available late 2009.
This summer Agri ImaGIS will be rolling out their new mapping system on Satshot.com, Satshot 3D. The new mapping system will have all of the same functionality of the current system with added features that enable the user to bring in more pieces of data to help create a 3D look at their crops. Information that will be available to upload will be things like yield maps, topography maps, soils maps and soil conductivity maps along with free soil and color photo map downloads. Satshot 3D will also have similar features to today's more commonly known mapping systems that have a 3D globe effect along with easy pan, zoom, and searching tools.
Faleide states, Farmers need an avenue that is simple, easy and cost effective to more effectively manage their operation. We feel we have built a system that can help them do just that.
Agri ImaGIS deals in remote sensing GIS tools and Satellite Imagery for agriculture. The company focuses on image analysis and data synthesis for precision agriculture, crop insurance, and other agricultural needs. Agri ImaGIS plans to stay at the leading edge of agricultural technology by continually developing and offering new services to their customers.
